Peak Season: 1 May - 1 October

1 May - 1 June: As winter approaches, the water temperatures drop and become cooler and consistent, the ever-present Dusky Sharks, Bronze Whalers, Ragged tooth sharks, and many more species begin to appear.

1 June - 1 September: The annual sardine run takes place, bringing all sorts of game fish and predators along with it. During the sardine run, there are large numbers of sharks and rays that follow these schools of sardines feeding on any injured or dead sardines. Huge Dusky Sharks, Bronze Whalers, Ragged tooth sharks, Bull Sharks, and countless ray species become more frequent in these waters.

1 September - 1 October: Water temperatures start to rise again and with that most of Mazeppa's big sharks start to disappear making it more difficult to target these beasts. During this time one can make use of all the smaller fish that come in closer to the shores.

Off-peak (1 November - 1 April): During this time in the warmer waters of the Transkei, the elusive Bull shark becomes more active. The Bull shark is probably one of the most sought-after sharks and is most likely on the top of every non-edible angler’s bucket list. While it becomes easier to target these fish in Summer, it remains an absolute challenge to land these fish.
